Technologist - Mycology
- As a Medical Technologist for the Mycology Department, you will perform all functions of Mycology specimen processing, testing and identification.
- Performs and interprets laboratory procedures on diagnostic specimens by means of cultural and microscopic examinations and biochemical testing to determine the presence of organisms pathogenic to man.
- Interprets results of examinations to insure the adherence to quality control standards, correlates the results of procedures and issues written reports on findings.
- Must possess license and current registration issued by New York State Department of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. ASCP certified is a plus
- Unless otherwise stated only experience gained after attaining education level qualifications will be considered in evaluating experience. (BS Degree, MT(ASCP).
Technician - Mycology (this replaces our ad for a Mycology Lab Assistant) - Because of the New York State requirement for this particular position, we are now looking for a Technician instead of a Lab Assistant. Here are the requirements:
Under the supervision of higher technical or medical professional personnel you will assist to do related work as required such as specimen handling, sorting, accessioning and plating.
1. Receive and enter specimens for laboratory tests/procedures, checking for proper patient identification
2. Performs basic laboratory work such as staining slides and preliminary preparation of specimens for testing using proper techniques to insure sample integrity and to prevent contamination.
3. Reports findings upon request by a physician or other authorized person and logs each telephone request as to patient’s name, number, date specimen collected, to who report was given.
4. Follow the laboratory’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for specimen handling, and processing.
5. Able to handle multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and good communication.
6. Six months of on job training in the position of laboratory Helper or Phlebotomist in West County service may be helpful.
7. Must possess license and current registration issued by New York State Department of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technician
