The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Cereal Disease Laboratory in St. Paul Minnesota, is seeking a POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, (Research Geneticist Plants/Research Plant Pathologist) for a TWO YEAR APPOINTMENT. The incumbent will conduct coalescence and phylogenetic analyses with sequence and microsatellite allele data from world-wide collections of Puccinia triticina, the wheat leaf rust fungus. The objective of the research is to determine the time of divergence between the distinct groups of P. triticina from common wheat and durum wheat hosts and also between distinct groups from common wheat. The incumbent will also assist in crossing P. triticina isolates from common wheat with isolates from durum wheat in order to develop a segregating population to be used in mapping genes that condition host specificity. Knowledge of molecular biology techniques, evolutionary biology and coalescence analysis is highly desirable.
