Gerald Bills and Zhiqiang An. Our research is directed towards on the discovery and development of novel antimicrobial agents and their biosynthesis. We anticipate a two-year sponsored project to use genomic engineering to increase production of a fungal natural product in the native organism. We are soliciting highly motivated applicants for a postdoctoral research position in metabolic engineering of fungi for the economic production of the targeted natural product. Hands-on experience in the areas of fungal genetic manipulations, transformation, gene targeting, gene inactivation, PCR, RT-PCR, and microbial metabolism are essential. A strong background in bioinformatics of fungal genomes is highly desirable. Experience with HPLC-MS, fermentation, metabolomics or elucidation of biosynthetic pathways would be highly beneficial. Efforts will include growth optimization studies at laboratory scales. Applicant need to have obtained their Ph.D. to be eligible for the position.
