Rutgers University – New Brunswick seeks an accomplished scientist to serve as the Henry Rutgers Professor of Microbiomes and Health. The successful candidate will conduct innovative research into how microbiomes function and how they impact human, animal, plant and/or environmental health. A fundamental understanding of how microorganisms assemble to form biomes and how their combined activities affect human and environmental health is pivotal to meeting many of the challenges that face humanity and Earth – from human health, to agriculture, to the overall health of the biosphere. The Doyle Lab at Louisiana State University and LSU AgCenter in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is looking to recruit an inquisitive, enthusiastic, and well-qualified graduate student to work on one of several projects in fungal phylogenomics starting in Winter/Spring of 2017. The ideal candidate will be interested in pursuing a PhD, however Masters students will be considered. Candidates with experience in phylogenetics, bioinformatics, and mycology will be given preference, but good communication skills plus a strong interest in fungal evolution and phylogenetic inference is a must. There will be opportunities to develop a project that combines field, lab, and computational work within the broader scope of our lab’s research program. A research assistantship plus research support is currently funded for 3 years, but students will be expected to pursue additional funding.
