2 PhD fellowships in 'Biodiversity and Cultivation of Fungi' ------------------------------------------------------------ Two PhD fellowships are available from 1st of April 2013 to 31st of December 2015 at Goethe-University Frankfurt, Department of Biological Sciences (Institute of Ecology, Evolution and Diversity). The positions are framed within the LOEWE excellence cluster 'Integrative Fungal Research'. The cluster has recently been funded, and includes researchers in mycology at four universities in Germany and the Senckenberg Society. The aim of the cluster is to synergistically tie together the basic research areas of biodiversity research, molecular genetics, and genomics with translational research in biochemistry and biotechnology. Thus, the research cluster offers an ideal environment for scientific development and profiling. We are looking for motivated and creative candidates who will develop individual PhD projects on the biodiversity and ecological significance of fungal endophytes. More specifically, the projects will be aimed to identify endophytes' patterns of distribution, association and interaction with plant hosts, to assess evolutive processes leading to plant-fungus symbioses, and to experimentally test potential mutualistic associations with relevance for adaptation to the environment. The applicants should hold an MSc degree (or equivalent) in biology or related fields. We expect good written and oral communication skills in English....

L'Oréal USA Fellowships for Women In Science 2013 Fellowship Program The L’Oreal USA Fellowships For Women In Science 2013 Fellowship Program began this November 5th! The applications will be available at www.lorealusa.com under the For Women In Science/US Fellowship tab. The program is entering its tenth year and since its launch in 2003, L’Oreal USA's Fellowship program has recognized and rewarded 45 extraordinarily talented young women scientists engaged in breakthrough research projects at leading universities and research institutions across the country. The L’Oreal USA Fellowships for Women In Science awards five post-doctoral women scientists with grants of up to $60,000. Applicants are welcome from a variety of fields, including the life and physical/material sciences, technology (including computer science), engineering and mathematics. On behalf of L’Oreal, we invite you to partner with us to communicate this special fellowship program for exceptional...

Graduate Student Opportunities in Fungal Ecology The Hynson lab at the University of Hawaii Manoa, Department of Botany is currently recruiting highly motivated, enthusiastic, and well qualified graduate students. We study fungal ecology with an emphasis on plant-fungal interactions such as the mycorrhizal symbiosis. The goal of our research is to deepen current understandings of the importance of plant-fungal interactions in natural environments. We accomplish this through field and laboratory experiments that utilize cutting-edge techniques in molecular ecology and ecophysiology. We are seeking graduate student applicants at the MS and PhD levels with strong backgrounds in ecology and/or fungal biology. For more information on the Hynson Lab and how to apply see: http://www2.hawaii.edu/~nhynson/Hynson_Lab/Welcome.html or contact Nicole Hynson at nhynson@hawaii.edu
