Online & Short Course Instructor, Penn State Department of Plant Pathology & Environmental Microbiology

Plant Pathology & Environmental Microbiology has an opening for an Instructor who will work collaboratively with faculty, Cooperative Extension, and a curriculum committee to optimize, envision, create and teach cutting-edge on-line courses. The position will be 70% Curriculum creation and development, and 30% Teaching. This individual should have a masters degree in Plant Pathology or a closely related science. Candidates should have strong writing and editing skills including excellent verbal, written communication, and strong interpersonal skills. Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of accessibility standards and the ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the university and community is required. Project management skills, demonstrated ability to work on deadline driven responsibilities; experience working in both a team environment & independently; excellent interpersonal & collaborative skills; and a customer centered, problem solving, energetic approach to work are required. Courses to be designed based on the goals for the course, specific learning objectives, strategies and outcome. Experience with eLearning development tools is preferred but not required; assistance available from College eLearning team. May monitor enrollment and report results, design and develop needs assessments and evaluate results, and develop marketing strategies for portfolio of on-line courses. Candidate responsible for the development of various short courses, including design, structure, content, and handouts, some in conjunction with culture collections. This is a fixed-term position for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding for two additional years.
