Indigo is looking for an experienced microbial taxonomist to enable our effort to identify strains and develop the next generations of microbial products to improve agriculture. The applicant will have experience in morphological, biochemical and nucleic acid based methods for taxonomic identification and characterization of bacteria and/or fungi.

Applications are invited for a 2-year Postdoctoral Research Associate to study fungal biochemistry/microbiology and how some unique non-enzymatic chemistries may have evolved in saprotrophic fungi to be active in human pathogenesis. The appointee is expected to function collaboratively to explore Basidiomycota fungal mechanisms for generation of oxygen radicals through non-enzymatic pathways, and exploration of nonenzymatic pathways in pathogenicity.

The responsibilities of the department chair include: recruitment and supervision of faculty and support staff; evaluation of faculty for promotion, retention and tenure; long-range and short- term planning; management of the departmental budget; support of faculty development; promotion of excellence in teaching; coordination of efforts to recruit and retain undergraduate and graduate students representing all the diverse segments of the U.S. and international populations; promoting curricular development; maintaining clear and open communication within the Department; successfully mediating student concerns; representing the Department both within and beyond the university; communicating expectations of the university administration to the Department and some teaching of appropriate courses in the Department. This is an 11 month, 100% position.

The Branco Lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Montana State University is recruiting a motivated graduate student for the Fall of 2018. We seek students broadly interested in fungal ecology and evolution to study the patterns and mechanisms of adaptation to hostile environments such as mine contaminated soils and hot springs. The work will focus on determining patterns of soil fungal diversity as well as the physiological and genetic basis of tolerance in target fungal species.

We are looking for a graduate student to join our research group beginning in fall semester 2018. The student would develop an independent research focus in line with ongoing lab projects. We are exploring how plant traits relate to community structure and function of plant-associated microbes and termites using culturing and next generation sequencing techniques and the consequences of these interactions for the forest carbon cycle in the USA, France and Australia as climate changes.
