Faculty Position in Plant Pathology

The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Purdue University is seeking applications for a faculty position in epidemiology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The position is tenure track, with an academic year appointment. The primary responsibility involves research on the epidemiology of plant diseases important to Indiana, with secondary responsibility in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level. The successful candidate is expected to develop a nationally and internationally recognized research program focused on plant disease epidemiology, encompassing host, pathogen, and environmental aspects of disease development. Specific areas of research may include, but are not limited to, quantitative analysis of plant disease, defining the influence of environmental factors on infection and disease development and the development of explanatory or predictive models of plant disease progress. The successful candidate will be expected to attract external support and collaborate effectively with other faculty within the department and across disciplines at Purdue to improve our understanding of the biology and economics of plant disease control. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with professional experience. The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology has a diverse and creative faculty that conducts research in plant pathology, plant biology, and weed science. The department is part of a dynamic research community of plant scientists in the College of Agriculture and across the university. The department is located in Lilly Hall with newly renovated research labs and plant growth facilities. Sites for field-based research are available near campus and throughout the state. Core facilities for genomics, bioinformatics, microscopy, metabolomics and proteomics are available. Experience in disease epidemiology, disease ecology, disease management, disease modeling and statistics, or related research areas are preferred. Postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential and candidates should be able to demonstrate good teaching skills.
