The Purdue University Herbaria (Arthur Fungarium, PUR and Kriebel Herbarium, PUL) in West Lafayette, Indiana have an immediate opening for a full-time curator of fungi.  Together the collections comprise ca. 250,000 specimens of fungi, vascular plants, “cryptogams”, and living cultures with emphases on rust fungi (Pucciniales), vascular flora of the Midwest US, tropical fungi, and basidiomycete yeasts that include the most important collection of rust fungi (Pucciniales) in the world.

Duties Include: 

  1. Curation of specimens and cultures
  2. Conducting systematic studies on group(s) of interest
  3. Overseeing herbarium projects that may include DNA barcoding of specimens and digitization efforts. 

Application Requirements: 

The successful applicant should: 

  1. Hold an M.S. or PhD in mycology or related discipline
  2. Have experience with herbarium practices and with identifying rusts or other plant pathogenic fungi

Familiarity with aseptic culture techniques and routine molecular laboratory procedures is preferred. The successful applicant will work closely with the Director of Herbaria, Collections Manager, and undergraduate herbarium assistants and must be able to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment and capable of managing/assisting other herbarium personnel, as well as the ability to work unsupervised in order to complete projects in a timely manner.  Purdue University offers competitive salaries, commensurate with experience, and a full benefit package.
