Discounted Memberships:

Members from lower to middle income countries (LMIC), as defined by The World Bank will receive, upon membership registration, a 50% reduction in dues that include online only journal access (for specific membership types) with the option to request a full waiver of dues.

Latin America Chapter Membership:
New and renewing MSA members who qualify to be in the Latin America Chapter (LAC) can register annually at the discounted $15 membership rate. Latin America Chapter Membership requires the individual to have primary residence (more than 50% of the year) in Latin America, or be institutionally affiliated.

    • Individual Member ($90 annually): Any person interested in the study of fungi. This membership is available for individuals working with fungi in any realm, including, but not limited to, government, industry, academia, and nonprofits. Privileges of individual membership include the right to vote on Society business, to hold office, to attend meetings of the Society, to appear on the program of such meetings, and to receive online access to each of the following: Mycologia, the official newsletter of the Society, the membership directory, and other occasional publications. Individual members that select the auto-renew option will receive a $10 discount annually.
    • Latin America Chapter Member ($15 annually) Any person with primary residence (more than 50% of the year) in Latin America, or institutional affiliation.
    • Early Career Member ($30 annually) Early Career membership is available for members who have obtained their graduate degree (MSc or PhD) within the past 5 years. Early Career Members shall have the privileges of an Individual Member, except for online access to Mycologia.
    • Student Member ($30 annually): Student membership is available to any student including K-12, undergraduate and graduate students. Student Members shall have the privileges of an Individual Member, except for online access to Mycologia. K-12 students shall be prohibited from holding office.
    • Mycology Educator Member ($20 annually): This Mycology Educator membership is available to K-12 educators who would like to help access and develop mycological teaching curricula. This membership will also allow educators to engage with other members and follow their research in mycology. Mycology educator members shall have the privileges of an Individual Member, except for online access to Mycologia.
    • Emeritus Member (Complimentary): A person who has retired after having been an individual member of the Society for fifteen years or more and previously received approval for emeritus status by the Council may be reclassified as Emeritus. Requests shall be made to the Executive Vice President. Emeritus Members shall retain all the privileges of Individual Member.
    • Honorary Member (Complimentary):Distinguished, senior scientist with a long record of significant contributions to the science of mycology and who resides and works in a country other than the United States and Canada. Any member of the Society may submit nominations, accompanied by a detailed documentation of the credentials of the nominee, to the Committee on Honorary Awards. The Committee will review the nominations and report its recommendations to the Council. The nomination must be ratified by a majority vote of the Council by email poll. Honorary members shall have all of the privileges of an individual member but shall not pay dues. New Honorary Members will be immediately notified by the President to encourage their participation in the next MSA Annual Meeting and a notice of their election will be placed in the next Newsletter. An Honorary Membership is usually awarded to one scientist per year. The committee may choose to make no award(s) in any given year if no satisfactory nominations are received.
    • Life Member ($2500 one time): An individual member who pays a one-time life membership fee in an amount determined by the Council. A Life Member, upon election by the society, shall have all the privileges of an individual member. 
    • Family Members ($10 annually): Family of members qualifying for any Membership. Family members may not vote in Society elections or hold office.
    • Sustaining Member ($900.00 annually): An individual or corporation recruited and recommended for sustaining membership by the Membership Committee. Sustaining Members must be approved by the Council. A Sustaining Member shall have the privileges of an individual member as well as those specified by the Membership Committee.
    • Mycophile Member ($20 annually): An individual who is a member of the North American Mycological Association and wishes to receive the newsletter of the Society and/or attend the annual meetings of the Society. Mycophile Members may not vote in Society elections or hold office.
    • Affiliated Society ($90 annually): An organization that represents a community of interest in some aspect of mycology. Approval by Council required. Each affiliated organization shall pay annual dues as an Individual Member. It will receive one subscription to each publication of the Society, and it shall be entitled to one vote in the business of the Society through its president or other officially designated representative. Members of affiliated organizations shall be eligible to attend all meetings of the Society but shall not be eligible to hold office in the Society or to vote on the business of the Society, unless qualified under some other category of Society Membership.

Unless otherwise noted, digital Mycologia access can be added at the cost of $20 to each membership, except Individual Members who have Mycologia included.

Mycologists, students of the Fungi, mycologues, mycophiles, fungal biologists, and all persons with a personal or professional interest in fungi are cordially invited to apply for membership in the Mycological Society of America, the international professional organization that is home to mycologists based in the United States and Canada. The MSA has members from more than 40 countries, who come from academic, industrial, medical, governmental, and amateur backgrounds.

The Society’s constitution states that “The purpose of the Society is to promote and advance the science of mycology and to foster and encourage research and education in mycology in all its aspects… Membership in the Society shall be open to persons or organizations who share the stated purposes of the Society.” We welcome applications for membership from all interested persons who share our goals.

MSA Publications

Membership in the MSA provides an opportunity to stay current with new research on fungi via the Society’s journal, Mycologia, a leader in the field, and also to learn about meetings, publications, regulatory developments, controversies, and other current activities in mycology around the world via the MSA’s newsletter Inoculum. Inoculum is available to all members online. Mycologia is available to certain membership types online, and is available for purchase in hard-copy as well. 

In addition to MSA publications, MSA sponsors many other activities and programs, including our annual meeting, where researchers gather to exchange the latest information on all aspects of the fungi.

Mycologia Print Journal Subscrtiptions (only available to MSA members):
