Post Doctoral Position Available Immediately: Phylogenomics-based Diagnostic Tools for Fusarium
A post-doc position in fungal genomics is available immediately to develop new phylogenomics-informed diagnostic tools and metagenomic markers for Fusarium oxysporum. This grant-funded position is in support of an ongoing collaboration between Frank Martin, USDA-ARS, Salinas, CA and David Geiser at Penn State University. Prior collaboration established a genomic sequence database for a wide range of formae speciales, supported a phylogenetic analysis of the species, development of a WGS-enabled multilocus haplotype analysis for improved classification of isolates and developed tools for a comparative genomics approach for designing diagnostic markers. The goal of the current project is to design metagenomic markers using the genomic sequence database and develop tools for their use. The incumbent will have latitude to use the genomic sequence database for investigation of other research interests as long as the main objectives of the grant are met.
The incumbent will be employed through Penn State and work at USDA-ARS in Salinas, with weekly Zoom meetings of the entire group. Travel funds are available to visit with collaborating labs and attend regional, national and international meetings. This position is fully funded for two years. Salinas is located in the central coastal area of California, 100 miles south of San Francisco and 30 miles from the Big Sur area.
Requirements
- PhD upon start of position in plant pathology or related field
- Experience working with genomics/bioinformatics and molecular lab skills
- Starting salary: NIH scale, with benefits
