Lowbush Blueberry Disease Program – School of Biology and Ecology

The research program for plant disease on lowbush blueberry is looking for a Research Assistant to conduct and support lowbush blueberry research in the lab and in the field. Tasks include implementing and documenting results of laboratory, field and greenhouse experiments. Research involves treatment application, and data collection, tabulation, analysis and summary.

Typically the applicant has the education associated with a B.S. or B.A. degree in a related area of science required. MS degree or equivalent experience preferred. Knowledge of and ability to apply experimental and registered pesticides is required; Certification as a Commercial Pesticide Applicators License for category 10 and 1B is required within 2 months of hire. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required. Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative and manage multiple tasks and deadlines are required. Successful supervisory experience is preferred. The position requires the ability to travel and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Ability to collect research samples in field conditions under sometimes adverse weather conditions and sometimes alone. Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry it up to 200ft. This is a 12 month salaried position, contingent on grant funding with a salary range of $36,000 to $38,000 depending upon qualifications and skills.
