Research Position: Mycology & Nematology Genetic Diversity & Biology Laboratory, Beltsville, Maryland

Applications are currently being solicited for a motivated research intern/participant at the Mycology & Nematology Genetic Diversity & Biology Laboratory at the Beltsville Agriculture Research Center (USDA- ARS) at Beltsville, Maryland. Hours are negotiable, 20 to 40 hours per week.

The candidate will be expected to participate in multiple ongoing projects related to the study of fungi associated with plants of agricultural or ecological importance. Specific activities include cultivation of fungi under axenic conditions, DNA extraction, PCR, Sanger sequencing of specific molecular markers and genome sequencing using next-generation sequencing technologies.

Qualifications: BS in Biology, Plant Pathology, Microbiology, Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, Botany, or related field. The ideal candidate will have experience in DNA sequencing, molecular biology, and microbial culture techniques. Review of applications will begin immediately. The position will start September/October 2022. The initial appointment is for one year with a possibility of extension to a second year pending availability of funds. Stipend will range from $20,000-$40,000 per year depending on experience and number of hours per week.
