USDA-ARS Postdoctoral Fellowship in Systematics and Taxonomy of Fungal Plant Pathogens in the Mycosphaerellaceae

ARS Office/Lab and LocationA full-time postdoctoral research opportunity is currently available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), within the Mycology & Nematology Genetic Diversity & Biology Lab located in Beltsville, Maryland.

 

Research ProjectTo provide a comprehensive report on the diversity of fungi belonging to the family Mycosphaerellaceae associated with plants and plant products inspected by PPQ officers at the ports of entry and delivered to the National Taxonomists (Mycology, USDA APHIS PPQ NIS) in Beltsville MD.

Learning ObjectivesThe successful applicant will have the opportunity to work in the morphological and molecular characterization of these fungi, including generation of multiple molecular barcodes, genome sequences, digital images of macro- and micromorphology, diagnostic characters, phylogenetic trees, nomenclature, species names and descriptions of new species.

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: September 30. Start date is flexible.

Appointment LengthThe appointment will initially be for one year but may be renewed upon recommendation of ARS and is contingent on the availability of funds.

Participant StipendThe participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. The current stipend for this opportunity is equal to $65,0.00 – $75,000 per year.
