Amy is a mycologist interested in biodiversity, evolution, and ecology. Amy received a B.S. in Biochemistry from Western Colorado University in Gunnison, CO where she studied population genetics of the fungal root pathogen Armillaria. She received an M.S. in Biology from San Francisco State University where she studied the evolution of Tetrapyrgos from SE Asia in Dr. Dennis Desjardin’s lab. Amy earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington where she explored the ecology, evolution and diversity of the stalked puffball Tulostoma. She currently teaches mycology and fungal ecology for Oregon State University. Her current research focuses on documenting fungal biodiversity and assessing fungal abundance and rarity for conservation purposes across North America.

The purpose of the Society is to promote and advance the science of mycology and to foster and encourage research and education in mycology in all its aspects. Members of the MSA meet annually to exchange information and build understanding of fungi
