Julian Marshall
Julian Marshall is a senior at Binghamton University (BU) with research experience in microbiology, mycology, and environmental science. His senior thesis focuses on the microbiome and behavioral interactions within an ant-mediated seed dispersal system; utilizing soil character measurements, behavioral trials, and supplemented by morphometric analysis. Julian is also working to characterize the endophyte and saprophyte diversity in an Eastern North American salt marsh grass species. His research experience also includes an REU program at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL, where he initiated investigations into a strain of Fusarium oxysporum.
Beyond research, Julian has found opportunities to share what he is interested in with the people around him, largely through his involvement in BU’s chapter of the Audubon Society, where he leads guided bird walks through natural areas. He has also helped organize citizen science initiatives on-campus and for the local community, offering a place for other clubs and laboratory communities to teach the public. When relaxing, Julian will often draw, linocut, or cook.

The purpose of the Society is to promote and advance the science of mycology and to foster and encourage research and education in mycology in all its aspects. Members of the MSA meet annually to exchange information and build understanding of fungi
