Prasanth Prabhu
My mycological journey began in August 2019, when as an master’s at the University of Calicut. While pursuing his master’s degree, Prasanth became fascinated by the interaction between Auriculoscypha anacardiicola and scale insects, which inspired him to study fungi further. Later, Dr. P. Manimohan trained Prasanth in classical taxonomy and systematics of fungi. He then began working with Dr. Manimohan for his master’s thesis studying the diversity of culturable endophytes of bamboo. After completing his master’s degree, he travelled to the other side of the world to join a PhD program at Clark University under Dr. David Hibbett. For my research, I am using Pleurotaceae as a model system to understand the evolution of carnivorism in mushroom-forming fungi, by implementing an integrated approach including cultural studies, metabolomics, comparative genomics, and transcriptomics.

The purpose of the Society is to promote and advance the science of mycology and to foster and encourage research and education in mycology in all its aspects. Members of the MSA meet annually to exchange information and build understanding of fungi
