The Stergiopoulos lab at the Department of Plant Pathology at the University of California Davis is seeking for a skilled and motivated post-doctoral fellow in the field of Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions. The lab’s research portfolio includes studying the molecular mechanisms underlying fungal pathogenesis on plants, fungicide resistance, and RNA silencing in fungi. For our studies, we use system-level approaches that integrate genomics with classical genetics and biochemical analyses to identify and functionally characterize target genes and cellular processes in fungi.


The post-doctoral candidate will be drawn from the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, molecular plant-microbe interactions, or related disciplines and will primarily focus on the biochemical and functional characterization of effector proteins and other virulence factors from the tomato pathogen Cladosporium fulvum. To do this the post-doc will integrate data from comparative genomic, transcriptomic, and targeted proteomics studies that are conducted in the lab. Although the project is focused on C. fulvum opportunities to be involved in other currently ongoing projects in the lab and freedom to explore new lines of research in consultation with the PI also exist. The position is initially for one year, renewable for a second year upon satisfactory performance. Highly motivated candidates with an interest in using cutting-edge functional genomic, proteomic, and biochemistry approaches to the study of host-microbe interactions are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates should hold a Ph.D. in plant biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related disciplines. Experience with proteomics and plant molecular biology techniques are a strong plus for this position. A record of scientific accomplishment by peer-reviewed publications, demonstrated ability to conduct and troubleshot experiments independently, and solid verbal and written communication skills are a requirement.
